CEDAR RAPIDS – Police arrested a Cedar Rapids man after they said he stole a moving truck and then crashed it into a car Saturday.
Jason Rose
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said the 2004 International truck, owned by Two Men and a Truck, is valued at more than $20,000. She said the truck was stolen from a repair shop in the 5600 block of 16th Avenue SW sometime Saturday morning.
Witnesses told police the man driving the moving truck backed into the car and then left the scene on foot.
“Some neighbors said he was last seen skipping down the street,” Hamblin said.
The driver was not there when officers arrived, but Rose returned and witnesses identified him as the driver. He walked up to police on his own and said he was “looking for some help.”
Hamblin said Rose was not intoxicated, but was not making sense. He was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital to be evaluated by a doctor before he was transported to the Linn County Jail.
The car, owned by Jeffrey Leggett, 55, of Cedar Rapids, sustained about $1,500 in damage, police said. No one was hurt.
