CONSTRUCTION MOVING ALONG ON FORT DRUM CONNECTOR - WWNYTV NEWS

Construction is moving along in the Town of Pamelia on Route 781, also known the Fort Drum connector road.
"I think the new highway is going to be pretty extensively traveled," said Ken Bibbins of the state Department of Transportation.
"It'll be the main entrance to Fort Drum."
The project spans nearly five miles and includes three new bridges and an interchange at Route 11. Over 100 contractors are involved in the construction.
"This will be a very heavily used interchange between I781 and Route 11," Bibbins said.
"It'll be a full interchange, you'll be able to make movements from any direction to either highway," he said.
Officials hope the new highway won't just make the commute to Fort Drum easier on soldiers and their families, but will also relieve congestion on other area roads.
Bibbins said routes 11 and 342 have seen a lot of traffic over the last few years.
He said he expected the new route will take some of the pressure off those roads.
The Fort Drum connector is expected to be completed by next August.
