Help Move For Hunger Win a Million Dollars! - RELO News

Move for Hunger is among only 25 U.S. charities chosen to compete for grants ranging from $125,000 to $1 million through the American Giving Awards, a Celebrity Tribute to Community Heroes presented by Chase.
Winners will be selected based on the public's votes on Facebook and at Chase.com
Move For Hunger is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit established by Adam Lowy in August 2009.  Its goal is to strengthen the efforts of community food banks throughout the country by leveraging an existing network of specialized transportation companies and state and national moving and storage associations to create one of the largest, year-round food service programs.
At just 23 years of age, Adam is an industry veteran who grew up in the family business, Lowy's Moving Service, that his great grandfather founded in Neptune, New Jersey. Today Lowy's is a tenured, full-service agent of Wheaton Worldwide Moving.

How Move for Hunger works

Every time a participating household goods moving company goes on an in-home estimate or to perform a residential relocation, the crew will offer their customer a box specifically for donated food items.
The homeowner can then either pack their unused, non-perishable items in the carton themselves, or direct their movers to pack it for them. Once collected, Move For Hunger makes arrangements for these much needed items to be delivered to the local food bank, where the contents can be distributed to families in need.
For those who donate, it's a personally gratifying way to give a little something worthwhile back to the community before it's actually time to leave. For the moving companies that participate, it's a wonderful way to support the nutritional needs of those less fortunate right where you live.
What started as one young person's personal goal to help feed the hungry in New Jersey now involves over 150 dedicated movers in 34 states. As of this week, Move for Hunger has delivered the 339,444 lb. of food to over utilized and underfunded food banks across the country. Collectively, the moving industry participants and their relocating customers have been able to provide meals for over a quarter of a million people in need.
Move for Hunger is the ONLY hunger relief organization up for the American Giving Awards grant (and definitely the only one in the moving industry)!!
