Tips on moving or relocating to Vancouver Canada

Many people get dragged in by the natural beauty of Vancouver.   It’s only partly because of this reason that many people decide to relocate their lives here.  Other times, people move do to job transfer, but fall in love with the city nonetheless.  Regardless of the reason for your move, there are several different resources available that will help you find the home of your dreams.  The housing market in Vancouver is currently overrun with available homes.  Whether you are searching for an affordable starter home, something downtown, or an elegant mansion, there is something available for your wallet and pocket book.  Vancouver is an extremely diverse city, where you will find something different around every corner.  When looking for a new place to live in Vancouver, it is best to make sure the realtor you employ is familiar with not the city, but each neighborhood.  If you know which neighborhood you want to live in, find a realtor who specializes in that market.  If you do not live in the area yet, many of these resources are available online, so you can browse for your new home when you have time.
Moving Checklist
Moving can be very stressful for a lot of people.  There’s always the chance of forgetting things, and no matter how organized you think you are, it’s never organized enough.
To help make this transition as easy as possible for you, we’ve put together a list of what you’ll need and questions to ask to make sure everything is taken care of.
Before the Move
Although it seems like something extremely basic, this first thing is the most important; determine when you have to move and the earliest you can move into your new place.  If there is any sort of overlap in time, for instance, if your move in is on the 10th, but don’t have to move out until the 15th, then that means you have a few days to move.  You can take your time moving smaller stuff, and save the big stuff for the professionals.  Of course, if the opposite happens, and you can’t move in when you need to, you may have to find alternate living arrangements and storage options for your things.  Reserve your moving companies as soon as possible to ensure you get the best deal.
Supplies
Don’t forget the essentials, like boxes, tape, packing materials (like Styrofoam peanuts and bubble wrap).   To make this even easier, invite friends over for a moving party.  Order take out, have beverages available, and enjoy moving.  Friends and talking make everything go a lot quicker and easier.
  • dollies or carts
  • shrink wrap (to protect and hold drawers in place)
  • blankets (to protect furniture during transport)
  • larger Tupperware containers
  • newspapers (for wrapping fragile items)
  • doorstops
  • bungee chords
Questions to Ask Your Movers
Make sure you inquire to your movers all the right questions to save time, money, and frustration on the big day.
  • Make sure they have the availability you need, and the price difference for the amount of people.  Some companies have an additional fee for a third or fourth person.
  • See if they charge mileage and how much it is if you go over the hours booked.  It’s always a good idea to book for a couple hours extra just in case.
  • Make sure they have insurance as some smaller companies do not, and this may be a major drawback.
  • See what methods of payment they accept, to make sure you can comply.
  • See if they will help you get rid of items you no longer want or need; be it taking them to a donation site, consignment shop, or landfill
You also want to make sure you have the information available the movers will need, things like the old and new addresses, the approximate size(s) of homes you are moving (e.g. two bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom house), and how many large items you have.  They will also want to know how many flights of stairs they may need to climb, and if there is an elevator available.  Let them know how many heavy items you have, and how many appliances.  This will ensure they come with everything necessary to make the move as easy as possible.
Using a list such as this can be a very easy way to make sure that your moving experience is as painless and stress free as possible.  Start your move to Vancouver off the right way, so you can enjoy the city from day one.
