12 Tips to make moving out easier

Moving out can be tricky, tiresome, and time consuming or as I call, the three T’s.
Here are a few tips that can help make the move easier, faster, and more organized.

1. Make a list of the subscriptions that would need to be transferred ahead of time. These would include the internet, landline, and the television cable. These items tend to take some time to be set up once you move into your new place.

2. Change of Address is actually important and keeps things hassle free. Do not assume that the information about your move is automatically received by the post office. It is best to notify them immediately to prevent any loss of mail.

3. Boxes- these are highly necessary when moving, they help organize and bundle the items you want together as well as make them easier to transport.

4. Moving can be easier if you lighten the load, so try to divide your things between items you would like to throw, keep, or sell.

5. Create an inventory of your things, this helps track your belongings. Many people say that they tend to lose things during a move, but making an inventory can help prevent that. Also, it is helpful to mark your boxes along when making your inventory.

6. Pack one room at a time. Don’t start on another room before one is done, doing so can lead to disorganization of your things.

7. Keep small objects together and in a secure place. Small objects can easily be lost during a move because they are so small. These can include screws for furniture, small trinkets, and the like.

8. Pack your things early. Things may or may not be accounted for if it’s done in a hurry. Moreover, if certain items aren’t packed well, they risk getting damaged. Be especially careful of fragile or breakable items such as plates, glasses, or televisions. Pack these early to properly secure them and to prevent loss or damage of your items when packed in a hurry.

9. Unless you already own a truck, hire or borrow one. A couch or your bed will not fit in your sedan. Moving large items in a compact car can cause damages to your car, as well as the large item you are trying to move, especially if you force it.

10. Now would be a good time to call some friends or family members to help. Taking into consideration you’re moving all of your belonging in the house, it most likely can’t all be done by one person alone.

11. Short on friends? Consider hiring some help. In light of number 8, if you plan on moving on your own, try to hire some help. Check your local listings; there are moving companies that are readily available by simply placing a call.

12. Tidy up! (patch those holes, and fix up bugs). Be somewhat considerate to the next person planning to call your old place home.
