A Relocation Checklist

Relocating to a new area can be a hair raising ordeal for even the most experienced mover. However, with a relocation checklist, one can alleviate a good bit of the stress of moving.

Moving? For some, the thought of relocating can be harrowing and for others a breeze. There is so much to be done that it is easy to feel overwhelmed. Completing address changes, packing, cleaning, taking care of utilities, unpacking and setting up camp again can seem like an endless task, but there is hope. There are seveal things one can do to ensure that relocating goes over smoothly.
First and formost, make a list. The list should be set up like a timeline, if you will. You will feel more in control knowing what has to be done and when.
Doing some reasearch will help greatly. Knowing where you are going and what reasources will be there is key. Call the local Chamber of Commerce. Most cities have welcome packets that include necessary phone numbers for utilites, information on housing, population, stores, hospitals, and entertainment.

Next, call a moving company if you would like to have your stuff moved professionally, or if not, they may be able to help you out with moving supplies if you opt to do it yourself. Get prices and available dates that will coinside with your budget and timeline.
You will need to call utilities for both residences. Utilities would include, electric, water, gas, cable, and trash. When you do have a new abode you will have to contact the local utility company for hook up. They will need a date and address to connect services, so be sure to have all the correct information in front of you. As for your current residence, you will need to call to set a date for disconnection.
Next, you will need to go to your local post office to do a change of address. They have a simple form for you to fill out that will ensure that your mail will be forwarded to your new residence.
After all this is accomplished and the moving day arrives, things will start falling into place. Whether you are moving yourself or having someone do it for you, you will need to be prepared for another means of living while you accomplish the actual moving. A hotel or friend is a good option. Staying with family can be helpful too. However much time you are in transit, patience is key. Don't forget to leave your old residence as you would like to find it when you moved in, clean and ready for the next tennant.
Finally, once you get to your new residence and start unpacking and setting up camp, be sure to take a moment to just breathe. You are almost done now. Go out and meet the neighbors, take a drive around the town and get ready for a new and exciting time in your life.
As you can see, taking a few simple steps and keeping a list handy with all the information that you will need to accomplish your move will make life so much easier. If done right, you will feel a great sense of accomplishment. Now, relax and enjoy your new home.
