RIYADH: Labor Attaché Adam Musa of the Philippine Overseas Labor Office in the Central Region Office (POLO-CRO) has been appointed officer of the Eastern Province desk.
"I will do my best to serve the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the region as I have done both in Qassim and Jeddah," Musa told Arab News on Saturday. He replaces erstwhile Labor Attache David Des T. Dicang, who will be transferred to Kuwait to replace Vivo Vidal, who had been recalled to the Home Office. Turnover ceremonies have been scheduled for Sunday.
Musa's appointment had been appreciated by the human rights group Migrante-Middle East.
"His appointment ensures that there's a labor attaché who will attend to the problems of OFWs and promote their welfare," said John Leonard Monterona, Migrante-Middle East regional coordinator.
Earlier, Migrante called on Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz to appoint replacement for Dicang.
"Recently, officers of Migrante-Alkhobar arranged a case dialogue with OWWA welfare officers but there was nobody from the POLO who attended," said Monterona.
An estimated 300,000 Filipinos are working in the Eastern Province.
