BARBARA B.'S JEWELRY MOVES ACROSS BETHLEHEM PIKE - MONTGOMERY NEWS

Barbara Barsky stands behind the counter of her new shop on Bethlehem Pike, formerly Getz Printing.
Barbara B.’s Jewels has a new location and a slew of new customers. The shop has moved across the street to 1501 Bethlehem Pike, and owner Barbara Barsky couldn’t be happier.

“Oh my heavens, it was a no-brainer. The exposure of being on a corner and across from a Starbucks is fabulous,” she said.

Choosing to leave her old location in the middle of the block has made a world of a difference, Barsky said. Business has been much busier, and she sees new customers every day. Some are students who run in after school lets out, and others come by thinking this is a brand new shop in town.

“I have been in Flourtown for years,” Barsky said. “Now I have people saying they never knew there was a jewelry store in Flourtown.”

Barsky opened Barbara B’s Jewels in 2006, replacing Popo Designs, which had been a longtime gathering place for women in search of jewelry and girl-talk.

The store offers a selection of different jewelry lines from both contemporary designers and local artists. Barsky sells high-end pieces and also more affordable items. She also specializes in diamonds and creating custom engagement rings. She travels to New York every week to design one-of-a-kind engagement rings for her clients.

Barbara B’s Jewels relocated in March and filled in the space left behind by Getz Printing. Owner Carol Getz sold the printing shop after 25 years in business.

“It was very sad when those doors closed,” Getz said. “But I’m very excited to see Barbara B’s in that wonderful location.”

Getz is “back on the pike,” working at the Wine and Spirits Shoppe, where she still sees her old customers. She also shops Barbara B’s Jewels from time to time.

“She has so many good things,” Getz said. “It’s still weird for me to walk in though and see this crystal chandelier hanging in the print shop.”

Barsky’s husband assisted in the space’s transformation by doing all of the restorations. He painted both the inside and outside walls with a color that is perhaps just as desirable as the jewelry being sold.

“I get 10 calls a day asking about the color. All these kids want this color for their bedroom,” Barsky said.

The color’s technical name is “water drops,” but now Barsky refers to it as “Barbara B blue.” It is also the color of the paper she uses to wrap up all jewelry purchases.
