His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has transferred Archbishop Antonio Franco from his present position as Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines to the post of Apostolic Nuncio to Israel and to Cyprus.
The news was published in the Vatican at high noon on Saturday, January 21, Roman time. It was released simultaneously, in Manila, by Monsignor Jain Mendez, Charge d’ Affairs of the Philippine Nunciature.
No definite time was set for the Physical departure of Archbishop Antonio Franco from the Philippines, or for his installment in Israel. It could be at any time during the next two months.
Benedict XVI did not publicize any reasons for the change. Nor has any new Nuncio been appointed for the Philippines.
