Moving into your first home is an exciting period of transition. With excitement often comes forgetfulness, so compiling a first home items needed checklist proves helpful. From the staples you need to the little extras you can't live without, organizing a list will help you ensure that your first home is well-stocked.
Staples
- Stock a bin with things that you will most likely need so you won't have to run out to the store to get them. Examples are toilet paper, paper towels or hand towels, paper plates and napkins, plastic utensils, non-refrigerated packaged convenience food, bottled water or other beverages, wastebaskets or garbage bags, soap, bath towels, shampoo, bed sheets, pillows, alarm clock and scissors to open boxes.
Furnishings
- Even if you are not planning to fully furnish your home all at once, you should at least have the basics such as a bed, chair and a dining table. Additional furnishings can include a nightstand, sofa and a television stand.
Cleaning and Organizing Supplies
- Your new home may need a bit of a touch-up or you may find that you want to tidy up before having guests come by and see your new living space. Have on hand a mop, broom, dust pan, vacuum cleaner, dusting cloths and various sanitizing spray cleaners.
Extras
- Have a flashlight, extra batteries, pain relievers, hammer, rake, shovel, tape measure, masking tape, utility knife, all-purpose lighter, phone directory and a first-aid kit.
