More Moving Out of Valley Than Moving In, Study Finds - Poughkeepsiejournal News

More people have been moving out of Dutchess County than were moving in, but the incoming households have higher incomes, resulting in a net gain.
But in the larger Hudson Valley region, more people moved out than moved in, with a net loss of spending income of more than $35 million.
The results are published today in a study done by the Marist College Bureau of Economic Research, based on federal data from a period covering 2008 and 2009, the most recent data available.
“During the 2008-2009 migration period, total outflows from the Hudson Valley (43,560) exceeded inflows into the Hudson Valley (40,298), resulting in a net loss of 3,262 households and a $35.5 million reduction in adjusted gross income,” wrote Christy Huebner Caridi, director of the bureau and author of the report.
But migration within the region favors Dutchess County, continuing a trend of many years, with people coming from Westchester. New York City migration northward continues to be a factor.
Overall outflows from Dutchess, 5,548, topped inflows by 198 households but the incoming people had higher incomes, for a $6.2 million increase in adjusted gross income.
