Folk Music Conference Moving to KCMO - Kansas Public Radio News

Date: November 1, 2011
An international folk music organization is moving its annual conferences and its operations from Memphis to Kansas City, Missouri. The Folk Alliance has met in Memphis since 2007. Its 2013 meeting is scheduled to be held in Toronto. After that, the music conference will be held in Kansas City for five years, according to The Memphis Commercial Appeal newspaper. The 2012 meeting at the downtown Memphis Marriott Hotel is the last one scheduled for Memphis, although the group's president said the city could bid on future events. Folk Alliance president Louis Jay Meyers said the event has outgrown the hotel and said reduced international flights into Memphis International Airport are an issue. The Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau estimates the convention pumps about $2 million into the local economy.
