COUNTY OFFICE MOVING - WCYB NEWS

A county office is moving and could be making way for a new college.

The Washington County, Tennessee clerk's office on Main Street will be closed for the next week as they move to a new location on Marketplace Boulevard.

The office manager, Beth Newberry, says the courts moved out of the building more than a year ago, leaving about three fourths of the building empty.

Newberry says the Johnson City Development Authority is now contracting to buy the building from the county and then hopes to lease it to Northeast State Community College.

"I think it'll be good for the downtown area. There are businesses down here that the students would frequent, the restaurants downtown," said Newberry.

They hope to have the new clerk's office open by July 1st at the earliest and July 5th at the latest.

While they are moving, residents are asked to go to the Jonesborough office.
