The first, and what is believed to be the best, way is to purchase the boxes.  You can simply click a button and have your order complete, and the boxes sent directly to your home.  This is typically more costly than the other options, but it is cost efficient because of the quality of the boxes.  They are new.  They will not give out on your belongings and they will not malfunction when being carried.

The best part about buying boxes is that they can be bought in ANY size to fit your personal needs.  From extra small to extra large, there are boxes available for every size move.  These boxes are typically made in measurements that are convenient for carrying and lifting.  Also, wardrobe boxes are an option.  There is no need to remove clothes from their hangers before you move.  These boxes have a built in rack, and they are heavy duty so that they do not break while in transport.

The next option for obtaining moving boxes is to get them used from friends and family.  This usually works out if you know a lot of people because by the time everyone donates one or two to the cause, you have too many boxes.  The problem with this solution is quality.  You can not really choose the size so while you are gaining on cost, your quality has taken a fall.  These boxes may be worn and could fall apart at any moment.

The same is true for the third option.  Getting old boxes from grocery and retail stores is a viable option.  These stores throw out boxes after unloading their shipments.  They will give them to you at no charge, but the quality is unpredictable.  These may be good or bad boxes and could potentially malfunction or fall apart.  Also, these boxes are usually a very odd size, which makes it hard to move them
